About

The Kintsugi Room is a Japanese ceramic restoration project founded by artist and maker Emi Kato Jones, offering both one-of-a-kind Kintsugi pieces and small-group workshops held at local venues in Los Angeles.

At its core is Emi’s personal restoration work—ceramics repaired by hand and reimagined with gold, available through the Golden Table Collection. Each piece reflects the wabi-sabi values of imperfection, transience, and care. A second body of work—the Rise + Shine Collection—is currently in development. Inspired by quiet mornings and daily rituals, it will introduce a new kind of functional art.

Emi was born in Seto City, Aichi—one of Japan’s oldest pottery towns—and raised in her grandmother’s hillside home, surrounded by climbing kilns (noborigama) and a long family lineage of ceramic tradition. After raising two children in the U.S. and building her first business, Kishu Baby, she returned to Japan in 2024 to study Kintsugi under master artisans in Nagoya and Ichinokura.

“Kintsugi gave me back something I didn’t know I had lost. It’s more than repair—it’s a way to feel whole again.”

Now based in Los Angeles, Emi shares this philosophy through both her work and intimate workshops, which offer a beginner-friendly introduction to modern Kintsugi using accessible materials. These sessions are a chance to slow down, reflect, and practice mindful restoration—no prior experience needed.
