Modern Kintsugi FLOWER BOWL Workshop | 3-Hour Experience (Jackson Cafe) | 10-5-25
Description
For this special workshop, we will repair a larger ceramic piece so that you can display your own beautiful flower arrangement inside. Includes a kenzan but does not include flowers. A kenzan, also known as a flower frog, is a tool used in Japanese floral arranging (ikebana) to secure flowers and branches in a vase or container. It is a weighted metal base, typically with upright needles, that holds stems in place and allows for creative, stable arrangements.
This is a beginner-friendly introduction to modern Kintsugi — a contemporary take on the centuries-old Japanese art of ceramic repair. Instead of traditional lacquer and gold (which can take weeks to cure), we’ll use fast-setting epoxy and gold powder to complete your piece in one session. The result is decorative (not food-safe), but still rooted in the philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection.
Your instructor, Emi, studied traditional Kintsugi in Nagoya and Gifu, Japan — and brings that sensibility into every workshop, blending cultural depth with calming, hands-on creativity.
